Figure Drawing

This session was my first attempt in figure drawing.
For two weeks, I would walk into class and begin drawing a live nude model.
At first, I felt extremely awkward, and had trouble keeping my jaw from dropping.
However, this class helped me tremendously with drawing figures in general.

These are my two most recent pieces:

Photo 1: Sacrifice
When I saw David laying on the model stand, his posture gave me a sense of pain and sacrifice.
From my angle, he looked as if he were a part of a ritual, one where everyone was starring at him, waiting for the unknown to take him away. I began painting him with the color green, because I felt it best portrayed the mood i perceived. The purple drops down on him to show a supernatural sense of falling. Hopefully that makes sense!

Photo 2: Mourning
This photo has to do with a tragedy. Alicia, the model, had a friend who recently passed away. That morning all I could see on the models face was complete despair. She sat quietly, lending her body to the surrounding artists, as each drew her stroke by stroke. I decided to focus mainly on her face, to see if I could portray her mournful state.
